In the Making began as a study of collage and layering, covering, scraping through and leaving pieces revealed. Taking a look at how separate pieces work together, how one layer affects and interacts with the next yet comes together to create a whole. As the paintings developed, I began thinking about the layers that make us who we are: the experiences others may never see, the prayers, small decisions, words spoken or left unsaid, and moments of courage or weakness that stay with us long after they have passed. We often expect transformation to come through one defining event, but most of who we become is shaped quietly, in moments that seem insignificant at the time. This collection is an invitation to look more closely at what has shaped you and what you are still becoming.
