“Thy Will Be Done”
This mixed media painting was created using acrylic, ink, charcoal, spray paint and dried paint skins of the painters palette. The leftovers from previous works become the unexpected detail in current work. I love it because it’s unique, it’s interesting, it adds texture.
Bigger painting surfaces allow for a bit more movement and expression and the process becomes more involved as I build up the layers and textures. It’s typically a longer process that I become more involved and invested in. Painting intuitively and energetically this way allows me to have fun with different tools and shapes and to get into a headspace that allows me to work through and process all that life presents. It’s during this deep dive that I use these layers to either write in with water soluble mediums or etch into the surface prayers, lyrics, scripture or just whatever is on my mind at the time. With the heaviness of things going on there was a lot of specific things to pray for, but ultimately “Thy Will Be Done” because the Father knows the ending from the beginning. And though it’s faint as it was subsequently covered with a light wash “Thy Will Be done” is visibly written in the bottom right hand section of the painting. (Look closely at the 5th photo) This was the first time I’ve made my writing legible and left it for the viewer in the final product.
** Please note the painting was not yet signed at the time of photographing. It does include an artist signature on the bottom left corner of the painting.
